Characterization is probably one of the most important parts of story-telling. I often hear other writers talk about how crucial it is for writers to take time developing their characters. Some writers write outlines with a summary of each character. However, the challenge in Historical Fiction is developing a character from a different time, understanding their language and their cultural background. Some writers go as far as learning their slang, behavior...etc.
I think this part of the book is probably one of the challenging parts for me...and....fun!
I'm enjoying learning about my two main characters. Okay, so I'll share them with you.
A little bit of my CHR novel...
Title: Unknown
The main characters are Victoria Cavalier- a seventeen year old French painter who is also the daughter of Rene-Robert Cavalier de La Salle and Kohana- son of the chief of the Natchez Tribe.
So far in my research, I've learned that de La Salle was a French explorer who was sent by King Louis XIV to the New World (United States) in 1682. La Salle was supposed to be searching for new land for the France.. but he ended up veering down the Mississippi. While he decided to take his own route, he ran into the Natchez Indians. De La Salle was hoping to bargain with the Natchez people to stay but
Kohana, the great-great-grandson of the great Chief Quigaltanqui, is completely against it and the only reason he agrees, is because of Victoria.
There's a lot more... that'll be inside this novel. I'm thrilled about where the story is headed.
As a side note, I'd like to say that this story is a work of fiction that is based on some true facts! Majority of the characters are completely made up for the sake of story-telling and it is not written for use of anything but a work of fiction.
Stay tuned...

Welcome to my 'other' blog.
Many of you reading this are probably coming from my Facebook fan page, or twitter. So, here's a special thank you for coming by. This blog is a 'fun' blog for me. I've been wanting to write a Historical Romance novel for quite some time. There is something boiling in me to write a beautiful story of love between two cultures that otherwise may not have experienced their love so freely. There are many beautiful stories out there. So many great writers capture the essence of these stories and write them beautifully.
Well, this is my attempt to do the same.
I haven't even started writing the book yet because most of my time has been spent on final edits for my first novel "Awakened", which is set to release July 27th. The most I've done for this one (title unknown) is research. But, it's been fun and I hope to share some of the fascinating things I've learned right here.
And, quite honestly, the cultures I am most fascinated with are Native American tribes and European history from the 16th and 17th Century. There is something so intriguing to me about that era. I am looking forward to what the outcome of my attempt to write a CHR novel will bring.
In this blog, I'd love for you to appreciate the beauty of culture. You just may like it!
Anyway, In this blog, I'm going to try and post step by step of what I'm doing, studying and how the story is shaping, without giving away too much of the actual novel of course ;-)
Many of you have been loyal readers at my writing ministry blog "The Ready Writer", where I write weekly devotionals. Thank you for your tremendous support and for purchasing my first devotional Simply Wisdom.
Well this is my introductory blog. So again, welcome!
I'm going to add more fun things to this blog, so stay tuned!
